Hi, first of all love the font :)

I see that the font was been "work in progress" for a long time.
I was wondering if you are still working on it or have you stop this font project?
I ask this because since you showed a picture of it and said that it still needed some work before the release, it has past almost 2 years.

Thanks

The project has been aborted. I will create another steampunk font as soon as I have enough time and inspiration to do so. Better. Thanks.

Love the font! Instead of using it as a downloadable font, could we pull the letters off of your post to use in a print piece? Credit given!

Man--I've been waiting for this font since 2011, haha. Great work, but in the future please don't go leading people on.

this is the most amazing font ive ever seen... i was wondering, would you mind if i used it for a project im working on? it would be something released to the public, for free. and id credit you of course, with a link to your dA profile.

its a minecraft texture pack im working on, steampunk/apocalyptic themed.

provided its possible to scale this down so each letter is no more than 32x32 pixels, would you mind if i used it?

I'm okay with this, but... I wanted to work on my letters again before sharing it as a fontface :x
Because I have no time for this currently.

well, a texture pack is a huge project, so i don't expect it to be done any time soon.

Really odd design. I like the effects you used but a few things bother me.

- The capitals seem to be inspired by Art Nouveau while the lowercase is inspired by Bauhaus. How does that work together? In my opinion it doesn't. The capitals on their own are quite brilliant though.
- Why are V/W slanted to the left?
- The horizontal bar in 'f' should be placed lower; at the height of the top of the rounded letters or a bit below. There's always a lot of empty space at the bottom right of 'f' so it might have been a good idea to place that rectangle on the right side of the stem of 'f' instead of on the left. Also, the ascender of 'f' and 't' should be lower than in b, d, h, k and l.
- Why is there no rectangle attached to 'i'?
- The tittles (the dots) in i/j are placed too low. They should be roughly halfway between the x-height and ascender or capital height. i/j should also be a bit longer. Rounded characters should be slightly bigger than rectangular characters so you should make a guideline for the top and bottom of 'a' for example and do the same for 'i' but place those guides a bit more inward than the first two guidelines. If you don't follow that method, rounded shapes will optically look smaller. That's why the stem in your 'g' appears to be a bit taller than its bowl even though they're at the same height.
- Descenders of g/j/y are never as long as descenders in p/q.
- s/t are too condensed.
- Why such an old-fashion 'w' in a Bauhaus-styled typeface? It doesn't look right.
- The 'y' is the only lowercase character which looks like it belongs with the capitals. Why the inconsistency?
- Perhaps most interest and peculiar, why did you design a Sans serif for the lowercase and a Slab serif for the capitals? It's really strange.

Hello :)
I'll try to answer you as correctly as I can.

Firstly, thank you for your analysis, I will have regard for your pieces of advice because they are relevant.

V/W are slanted to the left because I supposed that they would be used in the beginning of a word ; so it would be more pleasing to the eye used like this. But I have several versions of a few letters (not shown there) just in case.

I can't answer you when you ask me about the different styles I used to create the letters... I suppose I wasn't very inspired and not well-advised :(
When I wanted to create the lower case, I didn't know how to make them look like it belongs with the capitals. So I used another style because I had to find a solution.

I made a grid both for the capitals and lower case. I should have tried to "step out" the rules I had established.

I hope my English is comprehensible enough in spite of the mistakes I make.
I am inexperienced so I really appreciate your comments about my work :)
Thank you again !

Ahh if there are regular versions for V/W then nothing has been said. The slanted version I think indeed looks good when it's the first letter; I hadn't considered that.

"I made a grid both for the capitals and lower case. I should have tried to "step out" the rules I had established."
It's not a good idea to deviate from established rules. It's better to first make sure all the rules are set. You're welcome to join my Group #Temple-of-Typefaces. I posted a Journal entry with type resources. You can find everything about the basic principles in type design there. We're also planning to publish a series of articles about the different type styles; when they were developed and how to recognize them.

Is this your first font? You missed a few type design principles but in my opinion your work shows a lot of potential. Are you working or planning to work on other type designs?

Your group seems to be very interesting, I have just sent a request :)

It is my first font, yes (I tried once but I didn't finish it because I didn't like it). Working on type design was fun to me so I think I will renew the experience :p
But first I would like to improve the Steampunk one. I just have to find a few hours to spend on it !
